Easy homemade almond milk

Have you ever thought of how to milk an almond?

I have been really curious about almond milk for quite some time and finally decided it was time to give it a try. It turns out, it is much easier than I thought it would be and the result??

A drink that is super refreshing and nutty and surprisingly similar to cow’s milk. It is now my favorite thing to combine with granola for breakfast.In addition to being refreshing and nutty, almond milk is a dairy free, gluten free ,rich in minerals and vitamins, low in fat and has no cholesterol. So if you are looking for a new healthy drink that is loaded with flavor and guilt free, look no further.

You can flavor your almond milk any way you like but I would recommend trying it plain at first then playing around with additions. Chocolate, cinnamon, spices are only a few of the twists you can put on almond milk, your imagination is really the limit

Before I give you the almond milk recipe I wanted to share a few pictures I took when I was out looking for the last traces of color before the shades of the golden summer take over everything. It turns out that you can find beauty in the most unlikely of places. Even a bush full of thorns can be beautiful if you look close enough.

One last thing before I get to the recipe. I want to apologize for missing so many of my blogger friends posts lately. My oven did a mini explosion last week and I got burns all over my feet. I needed sometime to heal and get over the whole experience and I am really sorry than meant I missed so much of your great posts. I promise to do my best to catch up soon.

Homemade almond milk

1 and 1/2 cup raw almonds

water for soaking nuts

4 cups water

2 dates (optional)

1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Preparation:

Soak the almonds in water overnight or for at least 6 hours.

Drain the water from the almonds and discard. Blend the 4 cups of water, almonds  until well blended and almost smooth.

If you would like your almond milk to be sweet add the dates (or your choice of sweetener) and blend well

Strain the blended almond mixture using a cheesecloth or other strainer.

Homemade raw almond milk will keep well in the refrigerator for three or four days

Notes:

You can flavor your almond milk with your choice of flavoring: chocolate, cinnamon, cardamom

Don’t throw away the left over almond meal, spread it on a sheet and dehydrate it then use it in cakes, cookies, smoothies.
