Golden milk (turmeric latte)

I have written the intro to this post at least 20 times in my head and on the computer! and each time I end up deleting everything and abandoning the whole post!

Watching the news especially with the Black lives matter protests and everything going on in the states and around the globe makes you question a lot of things in your life: your priorities, the lengths you would go for an idea you believe in, the books you read, the company you keep, the people you follow on social media and the list goes on and on.

As life starts going back to ‘normal’ here in Jordan and in many countries around the globe,I think the lesson we should all consider is

”In the rush to return to normal, use the time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing to”

Dave Hollis

There are so many parts of “normal” that are anything but normal: Injustice, discrimination, inequality, and worst of all : silence in the face of all of that!

There is so much “normal” that needs to change, overwhelming as it may seem at first but we can all do something: Sign a petition, donate, educate ourselves, take a good look at your sources of information, the books we read, the movies we watch. The word associations that we allowed others to plant in our heads

What do you associate with black? with white? with Arab? with Middle Eastern?with Indian? with Mexican?
How much of that is based on facts? on your own personal opinion? on a personal experience? on well thought out search ?and how much of it was planted in your head through the news, media, books you read and influencers you follow?

I think my goal for whatever is left of 2020 will be: listen to authentic voices from all races and origins. There is so much beauty and strength in our differences if only we were willing to listen with an open heart

If 2020 can push us as a human race to start LISTENING . On a personal level, on a community, country and humanity level then may be all this madness will be worthwhile.

Golden milk or turmeric latte is a warm and comforting drink that is popular in India and has gained a lot of popularity in recent years due to its health benefits.

As the name implies, the key ingredients here are turmeric and milk but the ingredient list does not stop there. Ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper and ghee are all added to turn this drink into a nutritional powerhouse .

You see, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and turmeric are loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that help in reducing inflammation and pain in joints. Other health benefits that have been attributed to this combination of spices is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal properties, lowering blood sugar, protecting against cancer and heart disease, improving mood, memory and brain function.

Though much of that is still under research. It is definitely a drink worth adding to your list. Golden milk is caffeine free, it is soothing and comforting especially after a long day and the best part is that it tastes heavenly. So if you have not already, do give it a try and let me know what you think of it

1 stick cinnamon
(Or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
5 pods cardamom
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
Honey or sweetener to taste
.
Simply place everything in a pot, bring to a boil then simmer for 7 to 10 minutes
