Dinner rolls

Today’s recipe is the softest and most amazing dinner rolls you will ever try. The recipe is my friend Fatima, she is a talented baker and cook and I have yet to try a recipe she makes that I didn’t love at first bite.

These rolls do take a bit of time, you need to allow them to rise twice. This is really the secret. Once you try these, you will definitely take fewer trips to the bakery. If you are tight on time you can always try  my 15 minutes dinner rolls.

Dinner rolls

1/4 cup warm water

3/4 cup warm milk

1 egg

1/4 cup butter, softened

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2  teaspoon salt

3 1/4 tp 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons  dry yeast

1/4 teaspoon cardamom

For topping
1/4 cup of milk

1 tablespoon sugar

Directions

In a bowl whisk the egg with milk, water, sugar, butter and yeast.

Set aside

In another bowl sift the flour with the salt and the cardamom .

Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and knead until you get a smooth dough.

Place it in a bowl you have brushed with some oil and cover it with a wet cloth and leave it in a warm place to double

(If you are tight on time you can heat your oven to 200 C then turn it off and place your dough in a glass bowl and place it in the warm oven with the wet cloth covering the bowl)

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half.

Roll each half into a circle

Cut each circle into 8 wedges.

Roll wedges starting at wide end; roll gently but tightly.

Place point side down on ungreased cookie sheet.

Put in a warm place, let rise 15-20 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to the highest temperature it can go.

Stir the sugar into the milk and brush the tops of your dinner rolls (this will give them a beautiful golden color once baked)

Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes or until golden from below then place under the broiler until the tops are golden
